PORN: A Weekend Writing Intensive

THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO LOW ENROLLMENT.  Please contact me if you are interested in hosting a version of this intensive in your city.

Whether you think it contributes to the breakdown of sexual morals or is just a tool for sexual release, everyone seems to have an opinion about pornography. But rarely do we see nonfiction writers engaging the subject through rich memoir or thoughtful essaying. In this weekend intensive, we’ll read some of the rare literary works on the subject, identifying the craft challenges and social barriers to writing about porn well. We’ll also generate lots of our own material, creatively examining how porn intersects our own lives. Out of class, participants should expect to complete an online series of challenges that will serve as an engine for thinking about what exactly porn is—what its existence and forms tells us about ourselves, both as individuals and as a species.

Writers have the option of attending a workshopping group in the beginning of October to polish the material they've generated, hosted either in-person or via Google Hangout depending on the location and schedule of interested writers ($60 extra).
